Projects

These are some projects involving the creation of a real-life prototype, such as a robot. Typically, such projects require programming, CAD, and system analysis.

Gadget (robot) »

Gadget is an autonomous robot designed and constructed in the summer of 2010 for the 10th UBC Engineering Physics Roborace. It follows a black tape on a white surface at a very high speed. Gadget features many unique components and design choices. For instance, I designed a high-performance mechanical differential that was fabricated using precision laser-cut parts.

These are some creations achieved through computer programming.

« SAM simulation

A simulation for the Swinging Atwood's Machine, a system of two degrees of freedom exhibiting chaotic behaviour. For different mass ratios, its behaviour is very different. Click here for a gallery. Programming was done in Processing.

Maze »

I wrote my own maze-generation algorithm in C++. Using it, I have managed to generate mazes of extraordinary size. The algorithm is of the "growing tree" type, and can generate mazes using either depth-first search or a Prim's algorithm variant. Alternatively, it can also generate mazes without any dead ends.

« BML Traffic Model

The Biham-Middleton-Levine traffic model, which I programmed in MATLAB from scratch. Here, a traffic density of 40% is shown in an intermediate phase on a 200 by 200 square lattice after 20000 iterations. (Click on the image to see the full version).

3D models

These are some 3D models I made. They are mostly created for recreational purposes with more emphasis on aesthetics than functionality.

Pupple »

A concept car I designed when I was 14, winning the Outstanding Design Award in the 2008 Michelin Challenge Design. It was selected out of hundreds of international competitors to be displayed at the North American International Auto Show. The car features many interesting technologies. This 3D model was made in 3DS Max.

« Robot Tank

A detailed model of a robotic fighting vehicle with a 20 mm cannon. This 3D model was made in Rhinoceros 3D.

Chess Set »

A novelty chess set of my own design. A unique feature is the ability to stack the pieces. This 3D model was made in Rhinoceros 3D.

« Capsicum

A concept car of my own design, made in 2010. The car features advanced wheels and suspension, as well as a streamlined design. This 3D model was made in Rhinoceros 3D.

Habanero »

A concept car of my own design, made in 2010, inspired by classic racecars like the Porsche 906. Unfortunately, I never finished making this. This 3D model was made in Rhinoceros 3D.

« Purple Puppy

A purple puppy. This is one of my first 3D models, made when I was 12. It is basically a union of several distorted spheres. It is, however, modeled after the real purple puppies.
